houseguest is an all-trans post-emo rock band based on unceded Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh territories. Formed in early 2023, their brand of off-kilter garage rock stitches together moody guitar hooks and an intimate rhythm section. The band fuses these elements together beneath evocative lyrics and disparate-yet-harmonious dual vocal performances. In 2025, they released their debut ep, cry about it, and in march, their follow up single, divine creation. TL;DR: think Mitski meets Modern Baseball, with a side of shoegaze.

houseguest is:

Elizabeth Black (she/her) guitar, vocals

MJ Laing (he/they) guitar, vocals

Caitlyn Kavanagh (she/her) drums, vocals

Blue Chu (they/them) bass, keys

““resort towns” is the first track off Houseguest’s debut EP, cry about it. The tight four-track punch dropped at the end of January, fusing a garage rock sensibility with layered guitars, prominent bass, and contrasting vocals from Black and Laing that’s underpinned by a thoughtful rhythm section: drummer Caitlyn Kavanagh and [former] bass player/multi-instrumentalist Rachael Waldock. The EP is brimming with moments that match mood to music: the passage of time bending and warping in the distorted breakdown of “re-run”, or “somnabulist”’s steady haze evoking a dreamy sleepwalk. ” - V.S. Wells
